Neurology is the specialised branch of medicine that studies the pathologies of the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.
The neurologist, therefore, deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system, such as: neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, neoplastic diseases of the nervous system, infectious and inflammatory diseases of the nervous system, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, headaches.

Neurological examination
1. Collection of data and information from the medical history, the general objective examination and the neurological objective examination;
2. Organisation of information and evaluation of symptoms useful to identify a possible site of injury in the nervous system and a related syndromic picture;
3. Formulation of diagnostic hypotheses and comparison between them;
4. Attempt to identify the nature of the injury, the possible causes of the disease and the related mechanisms, using aetiological and pathophysiological knowledge and with the aid of complementary investigations;
5. Determination of the functional damage caused by the disease, fundamental to evaluate the effects of the treatment and for a prognostic judgement.
